Here we are going to explore something about “Be verbs” in Hindi
Be verbs show state of being.
| I am sad. | You were so good to me. |
| You are so cunning. | She is gorgeous. |
| He is a monkey. | Her husband was pilot. |
All italicized and bold words in the above mentioned sentences are “Be verbs” in English. Read all the sentences and write so that we can learn. A careful observation will show that each pronoun has a fixed “be verb” associated with it.
“I” comes with “am”
“You” is associated to “are”
This is known as subject-verb agreement. The verb has to agree with the subject present in the sentence. The subject -verb agreement exist in all the languages and Hindi is no exception.
Hindi be verbs also agree with the subject pronoun present in the sentence. The different kind of Hindi pronouns has already been covered earlier.

Be verbs in Hindi with Example
First person pronoun:
| मैं teacher हूँ |(main teacher hoon) | I am the Teacher. |
| मैं teacher था |(main teacher thaa) | I was the Teacher. (It can be use for Male) |
| मैं teacher थी |(main teacher thee) | I was the Teacher. (It can be use for Female) |
Second person pronoun:
| तुम teacher हो|(tum teacher ho) आप teacher हो | (aap teacher ho) | You are the Teacher. |
| Male: तुम teacher थे |(tum teacher the) Female: तुम president थी | (tum teacher thee) आप teacher थे| (aap teacher the) | You were the Teacher. |
Third person pronouns:
| सुब्रमणि teacher है | ( Subramani teacher hai ) | Subramani is the Teacher. |
| सुब्रमणि teacher था थे | ( Subramani teacher tha/the) | Subramani was the Teacher. |
| मैं ____था= I was | तुम ___थे = You were |
| मैं ___हूँ = I am | आप __हो = You are |
| तुम __हो = You are | आप___थे =You were |
| यह/वह___ था/थी/थे = He/She was |
