Hindi Barakhadi in English Words
Hindi Barakhadi in English Words – As we have learned in last lesson here we will learn how to use Hindi Vowels and Hindi Consonants to create various sounds
However, we must first learn how to make various sounds using English vowels and English consonants before learning this in Hindi.
Vowels in English are a, e, i, o, and u.
An English consonant, “K,” can be combined with five different English vowels to create five distinct sounds.
Barakhadi (Matra): vowel signs
- k + a= ka as in kaka
- k+ e= ke as in keyboard
- k+ i= ki as in kick
- k+ o= ko as in kofta
- k+ u= ku as in kurtas
Hindi is not an exception. Each Hindi consonant can have twelve different sounds when twelve vowels are inserted behind it. In Hindi, the word “twleve” means “barah.” Hence, the term “Barakhadi” refers to what you are about to learn.
Let us take the example of Hindi alphabet “ग (ga)“
When “ग (ga)” combines with the first Hindi vowel अ(a), the sound remains as it is
ग (ga) + अ(a) = ग(ga) as in gun
When “ग (ga)” combines with the second Hindi vowel “आ(aa)”, it takes the sound of “आ(aa)” at the end.
ग (ga) + आ(aa)= गा(gaa) as in Gandhi
while writing the sign ा (known as maatraa) is attached to “ग (ga)”.
When “ग (ga)” combines with the third Hindi vowel “इ(ii)”, it takes the sound of “इ(ii)” at the end.
ग (ga) + इ(ii)= गि(gi) as in Gift
while writing the sign ि is attached to “ग (ga)”.
